Worried by expired drugs found in health centres across the country, the Federal Government has inaugurated a 15-man technical committee to oversee implementation of a health technology, Stock Visibility Solution (SVS), with a view to improving on the supply chain management in the health sector. Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, made this known yesterday in Abuja, during inauguration of the committee chaired by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Clement Uwaifo.
The minister noted that the SVS, a mobile application, would allow dispensaries to report on stock levels on the shelves, help generate data from health centres and help the ministry have access to granular stock level data from the last mile. According to him, the application would synchronise in real time to a cloudhoused server that would automate alerts and reports for the benefits of various levels of supply chain management in Nigeria.
“The SVS will handle expiration of drugs. About 3.2 million worth of drugs actually expired in the past and we are committed to ensuring that this doesn’t happen again so the stock visibility solution will enable us to monitor our stock level even down to facility level
